A truly local Middle Eastern experience – simple, but tasty: Restaurant First Cup Masaya (12. November 2022)

Frankly, the First Cup Masaya restaurant is probably not a place you’d normally visit, since it does not look too appealing. However, the place is actually quite nice if you get to sit outside since it’s comfortable, the staff is friendly and makes sure you get what you need, and takes care of you throughout. As a starter, we went for the “chicken liver with pomegranate” (30.00 AED), which was quite nice. Chicken liver is not always enjoyable, but this particular case was quite delicious.

The “grilled halloumi” (30.00 AED) on the other hand was not that exquisite, since it was served not fully warm, but already a bit cold, which doesn’t really make it all too good because it becomes chewy quite quickly. Still, at first, it was still fine, until it really cooled down.

Then, it was time for a main, and we went for the “arayes” (55.00 AED). Not sure, what exactly I was eating there, but it was enjoyable and easy to eat. The filling of the dough was some type of meat, and definitely a good way to end a dinner food-wise.

After dinner, it was time for my favourite – a “double apple shisha” (65.00 AED). The shisha guy was quick and friendly. Within minutes, the shisha was served, and even without asking, the charcoal was changed on a regular basis which made it quite nice. All in all, the First Cup Masaya restaurant is a simple, typical, local restaurant which is definitely okay to visit and has a good price performance ratio.
