A nice Asian Bib Gourmand experience if you like sashimi: Restaurant Zen (22. November 2022)
The Restaurant Zen was listed on the Guide Michelin app as a Bib Gourmand restaurant, so, I decided to give it a try. As almost always, I went for the “edamame (salted green soy beans)” (EUR 6.00) to start and while they were good, they were, not like usually, cold, and the portion was quite tiny for it to cost EUR 6.00.
The “gyoza (grilled dumplings with pork and vegetables)” (EUR 9.00) on the other hand were quite enjoyable and lovely overall. The filling was nice and well-balanced between meat and vegetables.
As a main, I went for “steamed rice with small dried sardines and shisho, pickled vegetables” (EUR 7.00) and the “Royal Sashimi Assortment” (EUR 34.00). Frankly, the rice was okay, however, the sashimi assortment was actually super enjoyable. Not the biggest portion, but with the starters, it was enough.
The place is rather tiny, and it is an absolute must to book a table in advance. Since it was a last minute decision to come here, I only had space at the bar/counter, which was okay, if you go for dinner alone, but it was a bit of a surprise that on a Tuesday evening things would be as busy as they were. The staff is friendly and makes sure you get everything you need. All in all, I liked the Zen – good food, fair prices, nice atmosphere. Just make sure you book your table well in advance.
