Much better Italian food than I had expected and quite atmopsheric: Restaurant Signor Sassi (7. December 2022)

| February 1, 2023 | 0 Comments

The Signor Sassi had been recommended to me, but, since it is an Italian restaurant, I wasn’t intrigued to visit it as a priority. However, I must say, I was quite positively surprised with the experience here. We shared a few different starters like the “tricolore salad (avocado, tomato, mozzarella)” (85.00 SAR) which was relatively boring since it was just big junks of tomatoes, mozzarella, and avocado. But it was of good quality.

Secondly, we shared a “Pizza Arabica (tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, spicy salami, red onion from Tropea, green chili pesto and fresh green chili)” (172.00 SAR) as a starter, and it was surprisingly good. It was for sure not pork salami, but it was actually delicious, and it was way less fatty! The chilli topping definitely went right down my alley. The only thing missing for my ‘typical spicy salami pizza’ I usually go for, were the anchovies.

The “corn salad (four different varieties of corn in different consistencies)” (108.00 SAR) is apparently quite famous, so, we decided to give it a try as well. While I must say, I absolutely love corn, and, hence, really liked the salad, I found the equivalent of CHF 30.00 f0r a bit of corn a bit of a rip-off.

As a main, I went for the “ravioli Sassi (ravioli stuffed with lobster in a light cream & tomato sauce with baby prawns)” (225.00 SAR) which were much better than I had expected. The quality of the pasta was good, the stuffing was generous and delicious. And the sauce was good as well. So, I was really positively surprised!

As a side for the main (which would not have been necessary), I went for the “Petit Pois (green peas served with a touch of Italian cream and beef bacon)” (52.00 SAR) which were delicious, but definitely too big a portion.

Besides the fact that the food is quite good, admittedly though, with relatively high prices, the service is friendly, attentive, and makes sure you have everything you want and need at all times. On top of that, I really liked the interior since it manages to give you space, to create a nice atmosphere through the trees which are placed inside, and the fact that the place is actually booked out compared to so many other places. So, it’s key to book your table in advance!
