An exquisite lunch bargain if you book via TheFork: Restaurant Aurora by Vitor Veloso (3. January 2023)

When I read about the Aurora by Vitor Veloso, I was intrigued since the place seemed lovely and the food great. And I must say, that this is actually true to a large degree. The “cod fish tongue …”

“… with coriander soup and pata negra” (EUR 6.86 instead of EUR 9.80) was an interesting experience. Frankly, it’s not really that cod fish tongue is totally amazing in terms of flavour and texture, but in combination with the coriander soup and the pata negra, it actually made for a great dish. If you book your experience via TheFork and are lucky, you can book with a 30% discount on all food – which is quite a bargain.

As a second starter, I went for the “cockle ‘massa tenra’ with leek and miso, lime and coriander mayo” (EUR 2.45 instead of EUR 3.50), which was an interesting and flavourful experience I had not expected.

As a main course, I went for the “stone bass with ‘caldeirada’ sauce, spinach with smoked pork belly and …” (EUR 13.86 instead of EUR 19.80). The sea bass was light and absolutely enjoyable overall. The only thing which was somewhat missing was the specialness of it, i.e., there was nothing which was exciting. It was good and enjoyable, but nothing extraordinary.

The “prawn rice” which was served on the side, was quite nice. It was mainly rice, and it was nicely cooked, so it would still have a bite, which I quite like. There were also three pieces of prawn in it, which made it prawn rice. And they were good.

For dessert, I went for the “orange roll with black olive caramel, Algarvian almond crumble, coconut and lime ice cream” (EUR 5.25 instead of EUR 7.50), which actually had all my favourite dessert ingredients like caramel, almond, coconut, and lime. Despite the fact that the ingredients were straight down my alley, it turned out to be not really too great a dish for me.

What I absolutely loved was the place itself. It was somewhat traditional, at the same time it had a certain modernity to it, and the staff made sure you would be taken care off perfectly throughout the entire stay.

To sum it up, the Aurora by Vitor Veloso is definitely a place I can recommend you to visit. It seems like you do not have to book in advance, but if you do via TheFork, you might even get a 30% discount on the dishes – which is quite a bargain.
