A delicious Austrian restaurant experience with excellent service: Restaurant Kaiser Franz (17. January 2023)

| March 29, 2023 | 0 Comments

Since I’m not too familiar with Zug, I used the Guide Michelin app to find a nice and decent place. And the Kaiser Franz, an Austrian restaurant, is absolutely that: Nice and decent! Once you’re seated you’re served a “salmon roulade with salmon mousse”, which is a nice bite to kick-start your palate.

Then, you are getting some “bread and spread”, which was good. The bread selection is between sourdough and regular white bread, so nothing extraordinary, but still nice.

As a starter, I went for the “tagliatelle” (CHF 16.00) with “3 grams of black truffle” (CHF 15.60), which was quite a nice portion. And despite the fact that I’m not the biggest fan of black truffle, I must admit, that I quite enjoyed this particular dish.

Since the Kaiser Franz is an Austrian restaurant, I decided to go for a typical Austrian dish, the “‘Tafelspitz’ (classic boiled beef, chives sauce and creamy spinach, horseradish)” (CHF 52.00). I absolutely liked the dish. The meat was sliced super thinly, but it went perfectly with the sauce.

The “hashed brown potatoes” were nice as well …

… and I especially liked the little side selection with “horseradish, chives, apple and horseradish”, since it really added to the dish.

The place is a bit traditional in terms of interior design, but not old-fashioned. The staff is incredibly friendly and professional – really just doing an amazing job. They are attentive, friendly, caring, and besides the fact that you had to grab the coat yourself when leaving, everything was really quite great. Booking in advance is recommended since the place was quite packed, even on a Tuesday evening.
