Tasty meat at no 23. of The World’s 50 Best MENA: Restaurant Marble (15. March 2023)

The Marble has been nominated No. 23 of The World’s 50 Best – MENA and frankly, somehow it’s understandable, somehow not. To be fair, they have definitely upped their menu in terms of finesse compared to my last visit in October 2022, where the menu was relatively basic (but good). So, I decided to go for the things I haven’t had before.

I asked for the “tenderloin foam (80gr tenderloin topped on potato foam and crispy chilli oil)” (64.00 SAR) to be brought as a starter, which worked quite well, since it was the first dish to arrive. And I must say, the tenderloin was tasty, perfectly cooked to temperature, and the potato foam on which it was placed was delicious too.

The “Korean taco (Korean spiced tenderloin over corn tortilla bread baked over open flame fire topped with cheese foam and Japanese pickled mushroom) (47.00 SAR)” was the second starter I had ordered and it was okay. Basically, it was a piece of tenderloin wrapped in a tortilla. And while the meat was good again, the rest was so-so. Not bad, but definitely not memorable.

The “rocca salad” (35.00 SAR), which was supposed to be served after the starters, was served together with the main and the second starter above. So, the thing with the timing is really not something they are on top of. Everything is always prepared all together at the same time. Which is something, I personally find quite annoying. In any case, the rocca salad was good and definitely enjoyable.

Finally, the main course (which was served at the same time as the rest), arrived, and the “Ponzu steak (200gr Ponzu strip-loin open-flame grilled topped with green onions and ponzu sauce)” (95.00 SAR) was basically another piece of the same tenderloin, and it was nice. So, a bit my bad, but ultimately it was a lot of the same. The ponzu sauce went well with the meat – not anything which is absolutely outstanding and massively amazing, but enjoyable.

The place is very simple and not too appealing, but it’s functional and I must admit the service is quick, and so is the kitchen. All in all, the place is fine – and I must say when I went for their ‘regular’ meat in October 2022, I was more blown away than this time. In any case, when it comes to meat, you can definitely give the Marble a try.
