A nice Lebanese food experience: Restaurant Shababik (21. March 2023)

The Shababik was one of the restaurants, which had been recommended to me by a local, so I was curious to see what it had to offer. The nice thing I realized when arriving to the restaurant was that there are a bunch of restaurants in the same place, which looked quite nice. In any case, the Shababik is quite a huge place on the first floor and if you’re lucky, you get a table on the balcony – and ideally at the brink of it, so you have a nice view.

Once you’ve been seated and ordered your courses, some “crackers, spread, and olives” are brought to the table, and I must say, the crackers as well as the spread are both quite lovely.

The “aubergine raheb” (42.00 SAR) looked nice, but was not something I felt like enjoying all too much.

Although I forgot to take a picture, since I’m usually not too big a fan of tabbouleh, I ended up trying the “tabbouleh Shababik (50.00 SAR) and I must say, it was, hands-down, the best tabbouleh I have ever tried in my life! So damn delicious that I was almost intrigued to order more. But of course, I also went for my favourite Middle Eastern dish, the “hummus topped with meat” (60.00 SAR) and it was great too. The hummus was smooth and delicious and the meat topping really just added everything as it should be on top of it.

The “mtababit mloukhyeh” (60.00 SAR) was something I was not quite able to determine in terms of ingredients. However, it was tasty – it seemed like bread crumbs, rice, and some sort of spinach-like vegetable on top. Not really sure what exactly it was, but it was definitely something enjoyable.

The “stuffed meat kibbeh” (48.00 SAR) went well with the dip – personally, though, it was not necessarily my favourite bite.

The “crêpes”, which were served just like that and not with any particular meal, were good too and went quite well with the hummus.

The “grilled prawns” (145.00 SAR) looked nice and appealing, but I figured, I am not so keen to try seafood in the middle of the dessert (I mean, Riyadh is basically located in the middle of the country).

The “kafta bel laffa” (90.00 SAR), again, not sure what I ate, was great! I absolutely loved the dish. I didn’t try the French fries, because I didn’t really feel like, but damn, these kinds of sandwiches were great!

The “kabab skewers” (90.00 SAR) were not really skewers, but just the meat, which had been prepared on skewers. In any case, I must also say here, that this was great.

On top of the nice atmosphere and the good, and price-wise fair, food, the service was also friendly and swift. So, all in all, I can definitely recommend you to pay the Shababik a visit and enjoy their way of preparing Lebanese food for you. Booking in advance, especially, if you want to sit on the balcony and have a view, is highly recommended.
