A nice final stop before flying out back into the cold: Restaurant Plu (15. January 2024)
The Plu was listed in the Guide Michelin app, and given I have had a few experiences on Koh Samui, which turned out to be a bit disappointing, I didn’t have high expectations. Since I had walked there, and it was located in a back alley, I was expecting even less, to then be positively surprised. The place is nice in terms of interior design, and once you’re seated, the waitress takes care of you immediately in terms of taking up your beverage order. Once you’ve placed that order, the first amuse bouche in the form of an ‘egg’ is served, and it’s a tasty bite.
I then went for the “fried smoked duck breast with chili and garlic” (295 THB), which was delicious. In terms of ‘balance’, though, it could have had more duck and less chili and garlic. It felt a bit like you really had to look for the duck pieces. Sure, delicious, but a bit disbalanced (not flavour wise, just optically and procedurally).
The “fried soft shell crab with chili and salt” (420 THB) was nice as well – especially if you used the dipping sauce it was served with.
The “beef fried rice” (260 THB) was okay, but somehow, to me, there was a bit of sauce lacking. Once you had that (e.g., squeezed the lime or used the sauce of the soft shell crab), it turned out to be tasty too. By itself, it was lacking a bit of seasoning.
As mentioned, the place is nice and generally appealing, so, definitely worth the walk into the little back alley.
All in all, the Plu marked a nice ending to a long vacation in South East Asia – good food, professional service, nice atmosphere, and fair prices.
