A place, which offers something I’ve never tried – ravioli with a fondue filling: Restaurant Pensiun Aldier (29. February 2024)

Almost every year when we spend our holiday in Scuol, the whole family goes to the Pensiun Aldier as it is one of the places, which offers good cuisine in a lovely atmosphere. The evening started with a nice ‘amuse bouche’ of some sort (it wasn’t explained, what it was, but it felt like shrimp cocktail on a cookie).

As a starter, I went for the “hand-cut veal tatar from Engadin, prepared the Piedmontese way, with olive oil, a hint of garlic, and lemon)” (CHF 22.00), which was great. Simply, because it was really like tatar is supposed to taste – it wasn’t overly seasoned or the like, but you had that taste of meat – refined with a bit of lemon, and it was just good.

Then, we took a sharing plate of “home-made ravioli with fondue stuffing” (CHF 29.00), which I was super happy I tried, but, in all fairness, as a whole plate, would be too intense for me. The flavour of fondue really comes out, and it’s delicious, but it’s also somewhat too much in terms of intensity.

As a main, I went for the “beef entrecôte from Engadin, served with a cream sauce, with chanterelles from Sent)” (CHF 49.00), and while the meat quality was exquisite, I found the price for the size of the meat a bit disappointing.

The “tagliolini”, which were served with the meat were good, but it felt like they are much more spaghetti than tagliolini. In any case, in combination with the sauce, the main dish was quite tasty.

What I really like about the place is the interior design as it is held entirely in wood and it really creates this comfortable and lovely atmosphere …

… divided by a small hallway, where all the exhibits of the local artists are presented …

… and another, more traditional style room, which is also entirely held in wood.

The small town itself is rather lovely and definitely worth visiting, when you have the time.

On top of that, the place is nice, and the staff is superbly friendly. Only when it came to getting the bill, it took them a while to sort it out. But other than that, the place is truly one to visit and experience.

To sum it up, I’m pretty sure we’ll return here again if we spend our holiday in Scuol again.
