Great traditional Swiss dishes in an even more traditional atmosphere: Restaurant Zum Kropf (4. March 2024)
Nine years ago I last had visited Zum Kropf, so another visit was somehow overdue. And I must say, it is a great choice for very traditional Swiss cuisine. I went for the “veal sweetbread on lamb’s lettuce” (CHF 17.50), which was lovely because I’m a huge fan of sweetbread. And the salad was quite nice too.
As a main, I went for the “veal cordon bleu, stuffed with Gruyère cheese and ham, served with French fries” (CHF 43.00) and while the cordon bleu was tasty, it wasn’t the best cordon bleu I’ve ever had. It was a bit too dry, and I was a bit surprised it wasn’t served with a slice of lemon. Other than that, the French fries were actually great because they weren’t stroppy at all, but rather nice and crispy, just as they should be.
Instead of vegetables, I had asked for a salad, which was absolutely decent. I mean, kind of the same as the starter but just regular leaf salad, but definitely, overall enjoyable.
The staff was super friendly and making sure you would have everything you need and want and even managed to be relatively jovial, which was nice, since they managed to get a good balance between joviality and professionalism.
