An absolutely delicious find – and even open on Sundays: Restaurant Gresca (24. March 2024)

The last meal in Barcelona for this time was a great find. Not necessarily a place you would just walk into, but definitely a place you should walk into. The place is basically an U-shape, which makes it a bit special in terms of seating, but – and I was lucky – if you manage to get a place in the back area, it’s a bit more quiet and less hectic, hence, better. I went for the “mackerel toast” (EUR 12.00) to start with, and I must say, it was a mouth-watering bite. The pure memory of it now, when writing about it, makes me salivate.

Next in line, I went for the “grilled cabbage with pancetta” (EUR 12.00) and I must say, it was a good bite as well. It had a certain acidity due to the vinaigrette in which it was served, but the grilled cabbage actually added to balance that – and with the saltiness of the pancetta, it was a great starter.

Then, it was time for “sweetbread with chard” (EUR 26.00) and I must say, there was a certain sweetbread tendency this time in Barcelona. But man, it was delicious. It was grilled on the outside that it almost had a texture of breading, but it was just slightly crispy, but without being too crispy, and the sauce in which it was served – OMG, so good!

Last but not least, I had picked the “grilled lamb” (EUR 40.00), which was interesting because the flavour of the lamb was intense, but still in a very enjoyable way. Often, I find, lamb has too much of its own taste, and this one had a bit of it, and had a great reduction in which it was served. So, all in all, it turned out to be a great dish as well. Not as good as the sweetbread, but definitely delicious too.

The staff is friendly and quite swift as well, so, the Gresca is definitely a place you should visit for lunch – and on a Sunday, because it’s a great place, fair in price, and it’s open on Sundays. Booking in advance is highly recommended!
