Another great foodie experience a bit outside of the city centre in Alicante: Restaurant Piripi (13. April 2024)

| July 26, 2024 | 0 Comments

The Piripi is a restaurant with two floors. On the lower floor, there is a bar where you can eat at, and where it is rather noisy and busy, while the upper floor is a proper and lovely fine dining restaurant. However, once seated, I saw “pea pods” which were brought, and I had to ask first if they were really to eat – and yes, they were. Rather surprising to me, and frankly, not the best of all food experience I have had in my life. I mean sure, you can eat them, but it is not something I would necessarily recommend.

The bread which was brought afterwards was nice though, but I would have preferred if it was served with either a bit of butter or some spread.

The “Russian salad” (EUR 9.00) was good, but it was prepared with tuna instead of chicken, so not truly a Russian salad, however, it was actually nice to eat.

The “Iberian ham and fried quail egg swarovski” (EUR 6.50) was lovely. I had absolutely no clue, what a ‘swarovski’ was (besides the fancy glass company), but simply put it’s a small piece of bread, more like a cracker, on which some stuff is served. And this one was actually rather enjoyable.

The “fried calamari” (EUR 14.50) were a bit greasy in terms of batter, but with the mayo, it turned out to be a delicious bite yet again. Frankly, despite the fattiness, somehow, it was rather light and overall greatly enjoyable.

Even better was the “battered and fried green garlic” (EUR 9.50), since it was lighter in terms of content and it didn’t come with a heavy mayonnaise. So, frankly, all in all, it was a great choice to have – but I already felt quite full at this point in time.

The “tuna bottarga slice” (EUR 4.50 each) was definitely different than I had expected. I somehow had expected the bottarga which was grated and would be applied onto a slice of bread, but this was really a slice of the tuna bottarga. Relatively similar in terms of intensity, but definitely great in terms of flavour.

As a main I picked the “hake a la ‘bilbaína'” (EUR 33.00) and I must say, it looked a bit hidden under all the stuff it was served with, but it was actually great. Frankly, the fish was lovely in terms of flavour and texture …

… and it went perfectly with the “confit piquillo peppers” (EUR 6.50). They were rich in flavour and, frankly, quite amazing in combination with the fish.

The last course that evening, the “ice cream ‘mantecado'” (EUR 9.00) was definitely something I haven’t had before and was truly enjoyable. The quality of the ice cream was just beyond – so smooth and yet so rich. Absolutely loved it!

The place is simple in terms of interior design, but appealing at the same time. Definitely a place with a great interior design. However, the ‘carpet’ at the ceiling was not necessarily what I would have liked most.

All in all, the Piripi is a place you have to book in advance and a place, which is worth visiting. Lovely interior, great service, and frankly, good food for a relatively fair price.
