Always great for a lovely dinner with interesting dishes: Restaurant Brasserie Freilager (15. April 2024)
The Restaurant Freilager remains a great place to return to – as every time you feel like you’re spending with friends. Once seated, we got some “bread, spread, and carrots” to dip. Something I haven’t really seen often as a little starter from a restaurant, but something which I found quite pleasant and enjoyable.
I went for the “white asparagus from Caspar Ruetz with baby salt potatoes, fried egg, and sauce hollandaise” (CHF 24.00) with “cold-smoked bacon from Urs Widmer” (+ CHF 3.00), which looked quite simple, but the combination of the asparagus (good) with the fried egg (tasty) and the cold-smoked bacon (delicious) was absolutely mouth-watering.
The “wild garlic risotto with goat cheese and blueberries” (CHF 33.00) did look a bit messy, and in all fairness, it also ‘tasted’ a bit messy. The whole dish was rather creamy and smooth and somehow the different flavours worked together, but it was almost a bit too much in terms of number of different flavours. In any case, the risotto was good, but is probably something I would not go for as a main with a starter – maybe just as a main, as else, it is too intense in terms of different flavours with the starter I had chosen.
What I really like about the Freilager – besides the quality of the food – is that the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, and makes sure you have a great evening. Hence, I can absolutely recommend you to dine here – just make sure you book your table well in advance.
