Not sure why this place has such a good rating on the Guide Michelin: Restaurant Le Plëss (1. July 2024)

The Le Plëss has been on my to-do list for quite a while already, and finally it was time to give this place a try. Frankly, I was surprised how empty the place was (even considering the fact that it was a Monday evening). However, after some time here, I must say, I’m not that surprised. Once the menu was served, which already took a while until it had arrived, there was a little amuse bouche from the kitchen in the form of a “rice croquette with avocado and beet root”, which was actually not bad. Sure, a bit basic, and not necessarily what one would call outstanding, but definitely decent.

As a starter, I decided to try the “veal tartare (Lamb’s lettuce, flame-burnt cauliflower)” (EUR 23.00) and while the combination of flavours and textures was a pleasant one, I was a bit surprised that there was no bread served with the tartare. But, I do admit, I enjoyed the way it was hand-cut and the combination of flavours.

However, that was much less true for the main course. The “Mediterranean poached monkfish (chick peas, sesame seeds) with French fries as a side” (EUR 34.00) was somewhat semi-appealing. The fish was rather dry, and the chick pea mousse wasn’t too great either. And, unfortunately, not even when you would combine the two, something delicious was about to happen in your mouth, so, frankly, it was a bit of a disappointment. Luckily, at least the prices were comparatively reasonable.

The staff was friendly, but also not entirely up to the task. When I had asked for mayo and ketchup for the French fries, I was served a glass of mayonnaise, which had already been opened by a previous guest. No biggie, sure, but definitely not the way you want things to happen when you are going to one of the ‘allegedly’ better restaurants in Luxembourg. So, in summary, not worth visiting.
