Lovely lunch offering with great dishes: Restaurant El Pou (27. July 2024)

| October 22, 2024 | 0 Comments

The start at the El Pou was a slow one – you would have to wait quite a bit until you could place your order. And, for some weird reason, one waitress was only allowed to take orders for beverages, so, obviously, you had to wait until the other one was available (which is something I will never understand). In any case, once the order was placed, the stuff was served relatively quickly. The “crystal bread” (EUR 3.95) was good and nicely crispy.

The “soy marinated sardines” (EUR 8.50) were actually much richer in flavour than I had expected. Really worked a charm – together with the marinade. And it wasn’t too intense in flavour either, so, really a good combination of flavours and textures.

Very often, the “steak tartar (cut by knife)” (EUR 15.95) is disappointing, but in this particular case, the beef tartare was actually delicious. Nicely seasoned (not very spicy as originally asked for), but the flavour profile was great.

The “smoked aubergine with cream of feta cheese and kimchi” (EUR 9.95) was rich in flavour, but almost a little bit too rich for my personal gusto. The creaminess and the different flavours were almost too much.

The “puntetes de calamar with kimchi mayonnaise” (EUR 10.95) were the only kind of disappointing dish. I mean, it’s not like it was bad, but it was rather standard and was just lacking that intensity of the rest of the dishes, which was a pity – compared to the other dishes.

The “buñuelos of cod with black garlic aioli” (EUR 9.00) were definitely nice. The buñuelos themselves were okay, but nothing extraordinary, but the black garlic aioli on top really added to the dish and made it super lovely.

The place was nice too – simple, but somewhat nice and atmospheric, and, last but not least, the service also improved throughout the lunch. They relaxed a bit, became friendlier and more attentive.

All in all, the El Pou is a good choice for tasty dishes for a very fair price in a generally nice location – however, I would definitely make sure that you book a table in advance, even if only shortly in advance, as the place was filled up for lunch.
