A surprise supplement and tasty dishes for a swift business lunch: Restaurant Bärengasse (30. July 2024)

| October 26, 2024 | 0 Comments

To me, the Restaurant Bärengasse remains a safe bet when it comes to a quick and tasty business lunch. Given it was rather hot (apparently one of the hottest days of the year), we were lucky to be placed outside and enjoy the weather. The waitress was friendly and super attentive and within no time we were able to place our order. The starters were served swiftly and the “avocado tatar (tomato, sour cream, lime)” (CHF 19.00) was absolutely exquisite. One can probably debate if CHF 19.00 for half an avocado (at best) is a fair price, but it was tasty, so, nothing to complain.

Then I decided to go for their speciality, “Dieter Meier’s roastbeef (sous-vide, Sauce Béarnaise, Bärengasse frites)” (CHF 46.00), which was great. I mean, the meat was delicious and the fries were great too, especially, since they weren’t stroppy like fries so often are. The only thing, which was a bit disturbing was the portion. I mean, three slices of meat for CHF 46.00 is – even for Zurich – a rip-off. The part they forgot to mention when they served the dish was that there was a supplement (basically, you get more meat and sauce), which made it then a very fair price. So, don’t miss out on that supplement.

All in all, the Restaurant Bärengasse remains a great place for a swift and tasty business lunch. What I would highly recommend is to book early enough and to make sure you (and they) don’t forget about the supplement. But, to be fair, one also has to say that this is “not on the cheap side of things”.
