Rather average lunch experience before boarding the Whale Watching tour: Restaurant Höfnin (18. August 2024)
Sometimes when you’re in a hurry, it doesn’t end up in the very best of all food experiences. The Höfnin was close to the place I had to board the expedition for Whale Watching, so, I figured, I’ll give this a try, since it had a relatively good rating on Google. However, I figured, quickly, that a 4.6 or 4.8 in Iceland isn’t a 4.6 or 4.8 like in mainland Europe.
To be fair, the staff was friendly and attentive, and within no time “bread & spread” were served. And while the bread was absolutely non-eventful, the spread was actually quite nice.
As a main, I went for the “traditional creamed fish stew, “the best one”, butter potatoes and onion, rye bread” (3’980 ISK), which wasn’t all too bad either. I mean, sure, it is a simple dish, but it was actually enjoyable in terms of flavour profile. From a texture perspective, a bit less so, since it felt like a porridge.
So, all in all, if you’re starving and need to run for the boat trip, then the Höfnin is quite okay. Other than that, I personally wasn’t too blown away by the whole experience.
