A nice break on the way to the largest glacier in Europe: Restaurant Suður-Vík (20. August 2024)
The Suður-Vík is a nice restaurant located on the way from Reykjavik to Jökulsarlon and, frankly, a bit of an exception compared to the average Icelandic restaurant. I decided to go for the “house bread (our delicious homemade focaccia served with whipped butter and sun dried tomato tapenade à la chef)” (1’190 ISK) and “smoked local char (served with fresh salad, honey mustard and balsamic glace)” (2’290 ISK). The bread was rather tasty, prepared in a focaccia style, and the local char was actually good as well.
I then went for the “creamy seafood soup (with Asian fusion, served with homemade bread and whipped butter)” (3’290 ISK), which was a fun mixture of seafood soup, which was okay, but not great as it was too watery, and the contents were a bit disappointing in terms of actual seafood in there. I mean, it wasn’t a bad soup or the like, but it was just not really amazing either.
However, the “homemade brownie (served with Skúbb organic ice cream)” (2’290 ISK) turned out to be exquisite. The brownie was still slightly creamy inside, and the ice cream was absolutely mouth-watering and super light.
The place is simple, but overall nice and the staff is friendly and attentive. So, all in all, the Suður-Vík was a rather positive restaurant experience on the way to Jökulsarlon.
