An Irish pub in the evenings, but a good option for a business lunch: Restaurant James Joyce (26. August 2024)
It’s almost 10 years ago since I’ve last been to the James Joyce despite the fact that the place is rather close to my office – but somehow, the place never struck me as a lunch place, but turns out I was wrong. Sure, the interior is still the style of an Irish pub (and I suppose that is what it is in the evenings), but for lunch it looks quite sorted, and they have a small but good lunch menu. I decided to go for a typical, traditional Swiss dish as a starter – the “sausage-cheese-salad” (CHF 17.00), which was actually nicely balanced off with carrots, cucumbers, and onions. So, a good start into lunch.
As a main, I decided to go for the “tagliatelle with broccoli balsamic sauce and Parmesan” (CHF 24.00) and added “bacon cubes” (+ CHF 2.00), which made it an absolutely delicious dish. Then again, as we all know, everything is better with bacon cubes.
The staff is friendly and kind of attentive. Somehow it was a day of catch-up for the waiter and the waitress, as they seemed to have to tell each other a lot, paying only limitedly attention to their guests. But when they did, they were superbly friendly and professional. Was rather a topic of attention than anything else (still, a bit annoying).
