The last day of the pop-up – time to say goodbye: Pop Up Restaurant Tio Pisco (31. August 2024)
Since it was the last evening of the Tio Pisco, it was time to pay them a last visit. And frankly, you can see that they have grown as a restaurant over the past months since I’ve been here for the first time. The food remains overal good – there is not much of a change there, but the logistics definitely have improved.
We went for the “Ceviche Clásico (sea bass, red onion, lime juice)” (CHF 25.00) as a start, which I still completely enjoyed to get started. Personally, it was a bit too heavy on the corn side this time, but other than that, it was truly enjoyable.
Given they had somehow messed up in the kitchen and had a dish left, we got the “ceviche de atún pasión (tuna, leche de tigre passion, ginger, sesame seeds)” (CHF 26.00) on the house, which was lovely. The tuna ceviche was actually great, especially in combination with the pork rinds – as it gave it a lovely crisp.
The “pulpo nikkei (miso sauce/panca, yucca foam)” (CHF 28.00) was still good, but I had it in better memory from my first visit. Sure, overall a good dish, still, but somehow it didn’t really blow me away as much as it had the first time.
The “pan al vapor (glazed pork belly, tamarind sauce, pickles, creamy rocoto sauce)” (CHF 28.00) was still exactly the same as last time. It was overall enjoyable, but I still find the balance between bread and the stuffing a bit off (as in, there is too much bread, and not enough of the rest).
Since we didn’t pick all the savoury dishes this time, there was a little room for the sweet afterwards, and the “coulant de dulce de leche (citro/ginger ice cream, lucuma paper)” (CHF 12.00) was actually nice – refreshing, light, with the right degree of sweetness.
Last but not least, what the Tio Pisco really is famous for, is their “Pisco Sour”. Definitely something you should have tried while it was open!
So, to sum it up, it is a pity the Tio Pisco has disappeared again from the restaurant landscape of Zurich, but it was great to have a combination of Nikkei and Peruvian food with great piscos!
