Quite a nice new option in town – with a very French touch: Restaurant Lulu (23. September 2024)
The Lulu only just opened a week ago, so, it was nice to try this place. Formerly, it used to be the Belcanto, but somehow this place never took off. I’m curious to see if it will now, or still not. The place is rather traditional in terms of interior design and definitely reminds you of a French restaurant – only that it has a little more space. As a starter, I went for the “artichauts croustillants (whole baby artichokes, fried crispy, aioli, lemon)” (CHF 21.00) and I must admit, I quite liked them. And there was, surprisingly, enough aioli dip to enjoy it for the whole portion. What surprised me quite a bit was the size of the portion – I had expected something much smaller.
As a main, I went for the “emincé de veau à la zurichoise (veal slices Zurich style, with roesti)” (CHF 52.00), which was a generous portion, but also rather on the expensive side of things. In any case, the main course was good, without doubt, however, I was a bit disappointed that they wouldn’t offer kidneys with it, as would be offered if it was served the traditional way.
The “roesti” was fine, although almost a bit too well done, but still at the level of enjoyable.
The place is nice and the view would – normally, if it wasn’t for the cycling competition, which ruins everything – be quite nice.
The staff is largely friendly and really tries to do an amazing job. To be fair, though, our waiter was trying a little bit too hard! But then when it came to getting the bill, it suddenly took way too long for the bill the be brought to the table – which is always the part I really wonder why! Given the place is new and in, make sure to book your table well in advance!
