A great lunch experience and supporting a good cause (creating jobs for people with disabilities): Restaurant Krone Altstetten (25. September 2024)
Although more than a year ago since I’ve last been here, I like returning to the Krone Altstetten because they have a lovely concept. The place is rather old in terms of interior design, meaning they have repurposed an old house into a restaurant, which makes it lovely in terms of interior. On top of that, they are offering people with a disability a place to work, which I find great. I went for one of the lunch menus and started with “fennel soup with herb oil”, which was a good start for lunch. Smooth, rich and full of flavour – only that decorating sprout thing is something I really don’t understand why every kitchen in this hemisphere loves to add it.
As a main, I had the “pike-perch in beer batter with coleslaw, potato balls and lemon” (CHF 28.00). The battered fish was great and so was the coleslaw. The potato balls were – from a flavour perspective – relatively uneventful. Personally, I would have loved some dip / sauce with the battered fish, but even without the dip, the main was tasty.
All in all, the Krone is a great place for a lunch – they have a beautiful setting, the food is great, the prices are superbly fair for Zurich, and the staff does an amazing job, especially because you can feel they really all try to do their best, and it shows! Make sure to book in advance.
