A Michelin star with some exquisite dishes and some rather average dishes: Restaurant Palazzo Petrucci (20. October 2024)
The Palazzo Petrucci is located a bit in the outskirts of Naples, and it’s quite a walk until you arrive there (so, better to take a cab). Once you’re seated on the first floor where the first course is served, you also get to enjoy a typical drink of the restaurant, i.e., the “Negroni Palazzo Petrucci (Jodhpur London Dry Gin, Jodhpur Spicy Gin, Vermut 1850 Foletto, Campari CASK TALES, Cornicella liquore al Mandarino, Bitter chocolate The Bitter Truth)” (EUR 13.00), which is rather intense, but nice.
The three amuse bouches, which are served right there and then, are actually quite enjoyable – I especially liked the one topped off with anchovy, since it had an intensity in flavour, which was truly enjoyable.
The bread, which was served afterwards, was enjoyable, but I’ve definitely had better bread in other restaurants.
The selection of bread is nice – grissini and some kind of dry bread with bacon inside.
We decided to go for the “5-course signature menu” (EUR 120.00), which started with the “lasagnetta with buffalo mozzarella cheese, raw prawns and zucchini flowers cream”, which was interesting as an idea, but somehow didn’t fully satisfy. While the prawn was absolutely delicious, the mozzarella cheese was somewhat dense and a bit chewy, which made it much less enjoyable than it probably could have been.
The “squid tagliolino with clams and crunchy seaweed” on the other hand were absolutely delicious. Definitely not your average day ‘pasta’, but something, which was light and with the clams, it had a nice flavour profile.
The “spaghetti pasta with anchovies ‘in tortiera'” were outstanding. The spaghetti were cooked perfectly al dente and the anchovies on top totally worked out for me in terms of flavour profile.
Then it was time for a “fish soup raw and cooked”, which was a rather liberal interpretation of soup, but frankly it was interesting to see it in a decomposed way. And, depending on which ingredients you would combine, it actually turned out to be quite lovely.
The “lamb”, which was the next course, was good since it didn’t have a strong sheep taste, but somehow it was a bit too basic for 1 Michelin star.
Then it was time for something sweet, lollipops filled with a flavourful liquid, so, definitely something you had to be careful when eating, so you wouldn’t soil your shirt.
Then it was time for the actual dessert, a “Neapolitan pastiera”, which was something I hadn’t tried before, but which was actually not too bad in terms of flavour and texture combination.
Last but not least, you’d get a few chocolates, which were nice, but rather intense due to their dense texture.
What is quite lovely is the view from the restaurant, since you’re located right at the beach, so, you get to see the sea, and they add a little to it by using light effects.
What I liked a lot about the place was the friendliness of the staff, which made sure that you would have everything you wanted and needed at all times. However, from a purely culinary perspective, it definitely didn’t blow my mind.
