15. October 2011: Restaurant Strofi

As a welcome from the kitchen we were served a Greek specialty: Absolutely dry bread which you have to put into water first to make it eatable, on which you put some tomato sauce, and feta cheese. The combination is quite nice – nothing outstanding but definitely nice.

As a starter I had “stuffed wine leaves with mince meat, rice and egg, lemon sauce” (EUR 9.00) which does not look too appealing at first but it definitely tastes great. The lemon sauce looks pretty artifical and also tastes artifical somehow but overall, the mince meat with the rice in the wine leaves makes it a great combination. The lemon sauce together with the wine leaves makes a great combination.

As a main course, I decided to go for the typical Greek dish “Gyros” which was served with pita bread, tomatoes, onions, and some yogurt dip (EUR 12.00). The meat which is used to make gyros is definitely no high-quality meat (which you already easily see by looking at it) but overall, the thing is spiced up pretty well and in combination with the onions and the yogurt dip, it tastes quite good. A sound and pretty heavy meal which stuffs you.

The view from the roof top floor of the restaurant is pretty nice as you have a perfect view to the Akropolis. It is assumingly even better in summer as you won’t be protected with plastic “windows” from the wind and will have a straight and undisturbed view. The restaurants interior on the second floor is truly nice. Modern, spacious, and just nice.

The waiter was very friendly, attentive (he realized that I was still hungry when I was looking at my company’s moussaka and brought me an extra plate and cuttlery), and up for a joke or two. It took them a bit long in the beginning to serve the first course (he blamed it on the Moussaka being freshly prepared and I do not blame them for preparing it freshly, it tasted great by the way) to then go the typical Greek way and brining us the main course absolutely in the same moment as they took the plates from the starter from our tables.

Overall, I can recommend the Restaurant Strofi. It is a tourists’ place to some degree to be honest, but on the other hand the prices are pretty fair for the fact that it is right next to the Akropolis and the dishes are pretty tasty, nothing outstanding or special, but sound and good. The waiter is friendly and helpful, the prices are absolutely fair. So, overall, absolutely a good place.
