A lovely seafood experience where you have to book in advance: Restaurant Marea Sea Spirit (22. November 2024)
Thessalonik is n0t necessarily the place for fine dining, but with a bit of research you will eventually find a nice place or two. If you’re into seafood, the Marea sea spirit is definitely something I can recommend. I had booked a table well in advance and was happy that I had done so, since the place was rather crowded.
I decided to give a few different foods a try and started with the “homemade, marinated anchovies with purslane and herb tarama” (EUR 9.00), which were actually quite nice. And the portion was rather generous too.
Next in line was the “squid baby calamari fried with its ink” (EUR 14.00) and it looked a bit different than I had anticipated as there were two spots of ink, but not really the preparation in its own ink (or it would have been darker when it was served, I assume). However, the squid was quite delicious and went well with the sauce tartare.
The “lettuce dolma (bulgur, shrimp, crayfish aioli served with celery root in egg-lemon sauce)” (EUR 15.00) were definitely a bit different than I had anticipated, but they were also rather expensive for what I had expected from Greece (with EUR 3.75 per piece). In any case, they were tasty and went well with the sauce they were served in.
Last but not least, I went for the “linguine shrimp (Messolonghi botargo, chili and garlic)” (EUR 25.00), which were nice since the pasta was prepared well, the botargo on top added to the dish, and the shrimps were actually quite nice in terms of flavour profile.
On top of that, the staff was exquisitely friendly and professional, making sure that neither my water nor my wine glass ever emptied. So, all in all, I can recommend the Marea Sea Spirit as a good place for seafood. Just make sure to book in advance.
