Kind of what resembles a fine dining experience: Restaurant Clochard (24. November 2024)

The last evening in Thessaloniki was definitely something interesting since it looked the closest thing to fine dining. I had booked a table in advance, which would not have been necessary for a Sunday evening, but better to be safe than sorry. Once you have placed your order, they will provide you with a greeting from the kitchen in the form of a “vichoise with potato, leek and sweet potato chip”, which was small, but nice.

Then it was time for some “bread and butter” were also both were good.

Then I figured to have a few things like the “stuffed vine leaves, mince, aromatic lemon sauce, dill oil” (EUR 16.00), which were very different to the ones I’ve tried earlier that weekend. Definitely good and tasty, though, although the sauce was a bit bland.

The “dumplings with Greek cheese, sweet potato cream, ginger, smoked king oyster mushrooms, gremolata” (EUR 24.00) were rather expensive if you look at the ‘per piece price’ of a good EUR 6.00, but at least they were tasty, and the king oyster mushroom actually went superbly well with the dumplings.

As a main, I decided to have the “flap steak Black Angus” (EUR 32.00) with “Sauce Béarnaise” and I must say it was actually absolutely enjoyable and tasty, so, a good piece of meat to finish off the weekend in Thessaloniki.

The “Greek salad” I had ordered with it was the perfect complement, although it was a modern interpretation of a Greek salad.

The staff is superbly friendly and quite attentive. Until the very last moment when I had to refill my water glass myself (get me right, not an expectation but if you do it the whole evening, I also somehow expect this to happen after I’ve settled my bill).

The place is nice, the food is good, but the prices are rather high compared to other restaurants, although the overall damage was still okay.
