A lovely view during sunset right onto the bay: Chomtawan Bar @ Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve (30. November 2024)

If you’re looking for a lovely place to enjoy a drink during sunset, then the Chomtawan Bar in the Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve is definitely the place to do that. I went for the “Watermelon Bubble (Gin, PB Licci Schnapps, Rose Syrup, lemon juice, tonic)” (475 THB), which sounded more promising than it actually was in terms of flavour and taste intensity.

However, the “Mosco (Vodka, cacao white, Fernet-Branca, lime juice, homemade honey syrup, ginger ale)” (475 THB) was definitely more to my liking as it was much more intense from a flavour perspective.

The “Phulay Bay Blend (Thai assamica with Thai red roses, mint, fresh lemongrass, fresh ginger)” (220 THB) on the other hand was a little bit disappointing. What is definitely great though is the view you have onto the bay – it reminded me a little of Ha Long Bay, but with less of these rock formations and much less crowded.

I also went for something small to eat, but in all fairness, that wasn’t really a revelation. The “Prathaad Lom (deep-fried prawn rolls, spring roll sheet, coriander, plum sauce)” (350 THB) were rather disappointing as they were mainly “crispy” and didn’t taste of all too much, unfortunately.

What is truly lovely, though, is really the view you have onto the bay …

… and once the sun is setting, it becomes even prettier and more appealing …

… so, you just want to be on that swing for a while and enjoy the view.

All in all, I can definitely recommend the Comtawan Bar when you’re staying at the Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve – great view, lovely service and friendly staff, with decent drinks. If you want to catch the sunset, then you should deifnitely be there on time, as it gets packed if you don’t.
