A lunch place with a lovely view onto a fish pond: Restaurant Jampoon @ Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve (1. December 2024)

I somehow didn’t manage to make it on time for the breakfast, so, I was looking for a restaurant where you could get something to eat at noon, and there is only one option, the Jampoon, so, the same restaurant you have breakfast in. I went for the “Yum Pak Gud (local green wild fern salad, white prawns, minced pork, roasted coconut, red onion, crushed peanuts, boiled egg, spicy lime dressing)” (420 THB) as a starter, which was quite lovely. The dish was refreshing and full of flavour, but the shrimps were a bit too dry for my personal gusto.

The main course I had chosen was a “Khao Phad Kapi (fried rice with shrimp paste, crunchy green mango, shallot, sweet pork belly, shredded Thai omelet)” (620 THB), where you had to mix all the ingredients together to make sure you get “one dish”. And frankly, the selection of ingredients was an interesting one – ranging from sausages pieces to pork belly to fruit to spices to egg – and it made for a great bite. Especially, when you haven’t really had anything to eat for more than 12 hours.

The view at the Jampoon restaurant was lovely – there is a little Koi fish pond where you also find a few geckos, who live there, making the whole thing a rather lovely backdrop for a lunch.

The staff is superbly friendly and makes sure that you have everything at any time – they really go above and beyond and accommodate to your every wish. And they keep asking you if you want anything more or if they can help you by any means, to an extent where it almost gets annoying. But only almost.
