Quite an amazing vegetarian option for Asian-inspired food: Restaurant Hikari (6. January 2025)
I was quite surprised when I figured out that the Hikari is a vegetarian place, since I had not expected that (the place was chosen by a friend). But I was even more positively surprised, when I realised how tasty the dishes were. We went for “karaage (fried tofu with mayo and chilli sauce)” (CHF 15.50), which didn’t reach the same effect as actually fried chicken, but was tasty. The “zukkini tofu (zucchetto and tofu) (4 pieces)” (CHF 12.00) as well as the “Karifurawa Chizu (cauliflower and cheese) (4 pieces)” (CHF 12.00) were both good, but surprisingly, I enjoyed the cauliflower one (due to the cheese) more than the zukkini one. The “tempura (deep-fried seasonal vegetables with ponzu sauce)” (CHF 14.00) was overall nice, but isn’t easy to share.
The “Aka Ramen (spicy soup on sesame chilli base, bulgur, lupine, shiitake, red miso paste, algae, spring onions, ginger, Szechuan oil)” (CHF 26.00) turned out to be quite delicious. The only thing I was a bit disappointed about was the fact that it said it was spicy, but it turned out to be not spicy at all. Unfortunately. Other than that, a great dish.
The place is simple in terms of interior design, but overall nice. The tables are a bit small, but other than that, nothing to complain. The staff is attentive and friendly, and makes sure everything is provided within due time (although some of the beverages took quite a while). So, if you’re looking for Asian-inspired vegetarian cuisine, the Hikari is your go to place.
