An interesting journey through tasty dishes with a marvelous view over Frankfurt: Restaurant Franziska (15. January 2025)

If you decide to dine at the Franziska, then you definitely have to keep in mind that you can only order a tasting menu. The standard version of the “tasting menu” accounts for EUR 99.90 and offers you a choice for each course but the amuse bouche, which starts with a “handkäse (spherified curdled milk cheese chip, onion gel, chive)”, which reminded me somehow of chicharrón and was nice to get your palate started.

I decided to go for the “Russian egg (organic egg, imperial caviar, mustard dill cream, crisps)” as a starter, which was actually delicious in terms of flavour combination – sure, not the lightest of all dishes, but definitely tasty.

Next in line was the “black pudding gyoza (crusty net gyoza with black pudding filling, sauerkraut air, truffle mustard)”, which was absolutely to my liking. I enjoy black pudding generally, and the combination with the mustard and truffle flavours really made it a tasty bite.

Since I’m a big fan of sweetbread, I definitely had to try the “sweetbread Königsberger style (roasted sweetbread, caper sauce, micro carrot, baked caper apple, croquette)”, which was good, but not mind-blowing since the side dish elements were rather average.

I liked the “cheese (cheese selection from Affineur Eric Lefebvre, Tomato Chutney, Onion Chutney)” at the end, but was a bit disappointed when the waiter wasn’t able to explain what kind of cheeses I was getting because I would expect someone who works in a restaurant, which has the ambition to be outstanding, to be able to explain what kind of cheeses he is serving.

Overall, though, you get a great menu for a fair price – and there is no ‘average’ dish on that menu, so, everything you will eat will surprise you one way or the other – which is something you don’t find too often anymore.

On top of that, the view from the Franziska is lovely as you get to see the skyline of Frankfurt. On top of that, the staff is friendly and attentive and makes sure you have everything you need, although, I had to remind them a few times that I had ordered yet another bottle of water.

I would highly recommend to book your table early and make sure that you’re there on time so you have a bit of the view before it falls fully dark.
