A great and surprising find for relaxed and swift lunches: Restaurant Old Fashion Bar (22. January 2025)
I have walked by the Restaurant Old Fashion Bar quite a few times already, but somehow I never found the place too appealing to walk in – and, in all fairness, I had always thought that it was a bar only. Turns out, that is very much not the case, but rather that it is actually also a restaurant. And while it’s pleasant to sit in a not too overcrowded restaurant like in most cases in Zurich, it is also a bit unusual. Given the half empty setting, you’re attended to super swiftly, and the decision to go for the “Wiener Schnitzel (veal, cranberries)” (CHF 46.00) was an absolutely easy one. The schnitzel was quite exquisite, tbh, and I loved that they had sprinkled salt flakes onto it.
The potato salad was good as well, although nothing outstanding. The only thing I would probably like to complain about is the size of their tables. It’s very much like in a French bistro, where you don’t have any space to put down anything – and the table is full.
Other than that, the Old Fashion Bar is a great find – nice, traditional, but atmospheric interior, friendly staff, swift service, and good food for quite fair prices.
