A lovely traditional place with unreasonable prices: Restaurant Kindli (6. February 2025)
It’s a good decade ago since I’ve last been to the Kindli – and it felt like nothing much had changed since I’ve last been. The food is still good, but the prices are still quite on the high side of things. I went for the “pure green salad with extra virgin olive oil” (CHF 18.00), which was admittedly very good, but CHF 18.00 for probably a third of a salad … that’s some proper margin right there!
As a main, I decide to go for the “sliced calf’s liver with sage”, which was good, but far from the best liver I’ve had in my life, and for that, the price is too steep.
The liver came with some “roesti potatoes” (CHF 56.00), which were fine, but the portion just seemed – overall – a bit too small really. So, in summary, the food isn’t bad, but it’s definitely nothing mindblowing either, and for all of that, it’s definitely at the expensive side of things.
hat I must admit, though, is the speed and quality of the service. The waiter was incredibly attentive, making sure we’d never have an empty glass – be it wine or water. So, the place is an institution in Zurich, and definitely offers an experience. Very personally, though, it didn’t feel like it offers great food, which was – especially considering the price point – a bit of a disappointment.
