7. April 2012: Restaurant Le Congrès Maillot

| April 7, 2012 | 0 Comments

It started quite nice with some crunchy bread and sauce which was quite okay. Nothing special really but it definitely helped to come across the first hunger feeling. We had to wait quite a bit until the waiter got to our table but once he made it there, the service was quite good. But more about that later.

We decided to go for the business dinner (EUR 36.00 per person) which was quite a thing. As an aperitivo you were able to choose between three different aperitivo and I decided to go for the red lillet which was some kind of liquor which was quite intense but also quite tasty.

The first course was foie gras from the duck which was very rich in taste and fit very well with the toasted white bread. The foie gras was smooth and tender and fine in taste.

The main course was a grilled rump steak with home made French fries …

… and sauce bernaise. The rump steak was cooked too much, the French fries were good but not as crunchy as you would expect them to be. The sauce bernaise on the other hand was freshly made and very good.

Before coming the the final course, we were offered a cheese platter with various cheeses to choose from – three were allowed. The selection ranged from ordinary Camembert to Roquefort and the cheeses were quite good but some of them also pretty intense in taste.

To finish the lunch, I had a Crème Brûlée which was quite good but the vanilla crème was a bit bland but finishing with a double espresso made the lunch quite good.

Overall, the lunch was quite good and especially the price you pay (also, a bottle of 0,5L red wine and 0,5L water come with it) accounting for EUR 36.00 per person is absolutely nothing for what you get. Also, the atmopshere is quite nice – it feels like being in a typical old French restaurant with heavy furniture.

The service was – as mentioned above – quite good. The waitress was friendly, attentive and made everything correct in serving. Overall, I can recommend the Restaurant Le Congrès Maillot – the food is quite good overall, the atmosphere is nice, the service is good too and it does not cost much. If you are staying in that area (e.g. at the Le Méridien), it is worth a visit for lunch time.
