9. April 2012: W Lounge @W Opera Hotel
The W in Paris just opened recently – and therefore, I had to go and try a drink in the W Lounge. I have never heard of the drink before but the “Sweet Tooth Batida” (EUR 17.00) somehow sounded good to me. The drink was strong and tasty. Together with the drinks we got served small carrots with some kind of cream plus pop corn with some special spice which was quite good (and I usually do not like pop corn). In addition to the drink I had a “boozy tea” (some kind of tea with some kind of booz in it; unfortunately I do not remember the name; EUR 10.00) which was also quite strong.
The new W lounge is pretty nice when it comes to the interior. The design is modern, spacious and very appealing. To be fair though, I personally liked the Wyld bar (W Lounge in the W London) better. The service is okay – we had to wait quite a bit until a waiter showed up at our table (which actually only happened after I walked up to the bar). Still, the waiters are friendly and helpful and bring the drinks in due time.
Overall, the W Lounge in the new W Opera Hotel Paris is pretty nice. The drinks are strong and good, the atmosphere is nice, the service is okay (after finding out they got customers) and the prices are appropriate. So, if you like the W style you should definitely go there. They also got a 2 star Michelin restaurant in the property – did not have the chance to try it but it looked promising and the suites are very nice too.
