11. April 2012: Restaurant The Church
The classic burger served on a floury bap with rocket, tomato, mayo and chili and garlic chips (EUR 13.50) with additional bacon (EUR 0.75) and additional cheddar cheese (EUR 0.75) was quite good. The meat was tasty and juicy, the buns were a bit fluffy but okay and the ingredients were fresh and rich. The French fries were good too – not so crispy but still good and pretty big. The chili and garlic sauce was heavy but tasty.
A pint of Stella Artois accounts for EUR 5.60 which is quite fair – if you check in on foursquare you even get a free coffee or tea specialty from the menu which is pretty nice to round up your lunch. The service is good, the waiters are friendly, partially attentive and provide you with what you had ordered within due time.
What is truly outstanding though about the Restaurant The Church is not so much the food or the service or even the prices (although they are moderate), it is much more the place itself. The restaurant is a former church with an original organ …
… and the width and height of a typical church. The whole place is very nice because it is so spacious and it is just somehow nice to eat in a church (it is comparable to the Il Gattopardo in Milan).
Overall, the restaurant The Church is a must see while you are in Dublin. The place is very nice, the food is okay, the prices for pints are fair – and it is just pretty unique. Also, be aware to show up before 1pm as it gets very, very crowded around this time of the day.
