12. April 2012: Knightsbridge Bar

| April 16, 2012 | 0 Comments

The Knightsbridge bar in the Arlington Hotel offers a 3 course menu including live music for EUR 29.95. As it is 15 years ago since I was listening to Irish live music I wanted to listen to it again and the 3 course menu which came with it somehow sounded like a good idea to me. As a starter I had the “roulade of Irish smoked salmon – local smoked salmon, avocado crème fraiche, wholegrain croute and caper berry”. The dish was okay. One can definitely eat it and that is about it. Nothing special or outstanding but okay. What was amazing though that the dish was brought to the table about 30 seconds after it was ordered – not really a sign that the dish has been freshly prepared.

As a main course I had the “10oz Sirloin steak with sauté mushrooms, onion, crisp salad, chunky chips and arlington’s whiskey pepper sauce” which cost a supplement of EUR 5.00. The sirloin steak was quite okay in taste but had quite some pieces of fat which I did not like in particular. The chips were limitedly good but the whiskey pepper sauce was very tasty.

For desert I had the “lemon tart with fresh vanilla cream and raspberry couli” which was okay. Not really fresh and that great but okay. Overall, the dishes in the Knightsbridge bar are not really what I would recommend you to have – but you should go there anyway but rather for a pint of Guinness (EUR 5.00) or Bulmers (EUR 5.15).

The place is quite dark but somehow has a nice atmosphere …

… and when the band starts playing …

… or the dancers start dancing …

… the place becomes very lively and atmospheric. The band which played was very entertaining and the dancers were quite fun too. So, in my opinion it is okay to go to the Knightsbridge bar to listen to the music and to have a pint of Guinness or two but not that much to eat there although to be fair, it is not bad, it is just very plain boring (the food!).

One word about the waitresses: They are friendly, and when they electronically place their orders it all works pretty quick. But unfortunately, they are not really attentive one has to say as each time you would want something no waitress was around and you had to wait quite a bit until one realized that you wanted another pint or to pay.
