29. April 2012: Taberna S Pedro

This is the secret spot to be in Porto – a hidden gem in the Villa Nova di Gaia. We were brought here by Thierry with his Tuk Tuk. He started his business about just that exact weekend when we were there and does trips with the Tuk Tuk along the sea shore of the Villa Nova di Gaia – marvellous and very funny guy. In any case, he brought as here and was also so kind to order for us (as we asked him what is best to eat).

The restaurant ist famous for its grilled fish so we had a plate of “sardinha” (sardines; EUR 10.00) …

… a plate of “robalo grande” (big bass; EUR 10.00) …

… and a plate of “dourada grande” (gilthead; EUR 10.00). The fishes were delicious, mouth-watering and just great – the grill taste gave them the special kick.

The “salada grande” (big salad; EUR 7.00) was good and fresh but had a bit too many pieces of onion on it.

We were recommended a “green wine” with the fish (“O Tal da Lixa; EUR 6.50 a bottle) which was sparkling but was great in taste! The prices are generally very fair looking at the fish, the wine or a basked of bread (EUR 1.50) and a coffee (EUR 0.70).

The place is held very simple but it has nice wooden furniture and when the sun is shining and you get to enjoy the freshly grilled fish, it is absolutely marvelous there! The service is efficient and polite – not overly friendly but fine.

Overall, the Taberna S Pedro is an absolutely unique place you should go when you are in that area (take the Tuk Tuk from the sea shore right in Villa Nova di Gaia). Marvelous fish, nice place, good service and very low prices.
