31. July 2012: Restaurant Der Weinkommissar

| August 5, 2012 | 0 Comments

A true miracle happened – I found a real and really tasty Italian aperitivo place in the middle of Germany. The Fattoria plate (Parmigiano Reggiano 24 months, biologically produced, prosciutto di parma, fennel salami, fad cheese, pickled tomatoes and olives, aceto balsacimo) for EUR 11.00 is a great selection of true Italian elements which are all great in taste – except the fad cheese which was pretty average.

Even better was the “small cheese platter” (hand-made cheese produced by small cheese dairies for gourmet restaurants – 5 different kinds of cheese) for EUR 8.50. The cheeses were fresh, offered a nice variety from blue cheese to goat cheese to cream cheese – just basically a nice selection of the different available cheeses all tasting very intense and good.

The “small bowl of pickled green olives” (EUR 2.00) was really pretty small but the olives were great – pickled with garlic, just yummy! The food was truly delicious and the prices are more than adequate for the quality you get. You can also find quite some good wines for good money (e.g. a bottle of the Barbera d’Alba, Falcone, 2009 costs EUR 19.50) and the water is also not overly expensive (0,75L, EUR 5.40).

Der Weinkommissar is not only good because of its wine selection and its food but also because it is generally a nice place – the walls inside are decorated with wine bottles and outside you have the chance to seat yourself into comfortable wooden furniture which also looks pretty stylish. The service – once she realized we were there which was only when I went up to her to tell here that we were here – was friendly and quick.

All in all, Der Weinkommissar is definitely one of the places to go in Bonn – great dishes, good wine, fair prices, nice atmosphere and pretty okay service. It is pretty crowded though when the weather is good.
