5. September 2012: Restaurant Strandhaus

As simple the name is, as great is the food! I was not expecting anything like that in Bonn to exist! After we had placed our order, we were served a little amuse bouche from the kitchen – a small “salad” made of “mint, salmon, tomatoes and nectarines” – a very refreshing way to start the evening.

As a first course, I decided to go for a “crispy roasted burrata drop with piquant tomato basil sorbet, rocket pesto and salad” (EUR 14.00). The tomato basil sorbet was delicious and the absolutely creamy hot filling of the drop – the molten burrata – was equally outstanding. The combination of the two – the cold and spicy with the hot and creamy – was mouth-watering.

My “beef filet with crispy rosemary polenta and glazed shallots” (EUR 27.00) was also outstanding. The beef filet was absolutely tender like butter, the rosemary polenta was crispy indeed but soft inside. Quite simple dish generally speaking but outstanding in the way it was prepared.

To finalize the evening, I had a “French cheese selection” (EUR 9.90) with five different kinds of cheese. Nothing surprising here but well-balanced selection with different tastes and just yummy.

With the espresso (EUR 2.30) some chocolates were served – all had a strong chocolate flavour but were, again, great in taste.

The prices are not the lowest but more than fair for what you are offered. Everything is prepared freshly and is outstandingly tasty. The prices for water (0,75L; EUR 5.90) as well as for wine (a bottle of Amarone, Zeni, 2008, EUR 49.00) are moderate.

But not only the food is outstanding, the service is on a very high level as well. Very friendly, competent when it comes to explanations or additional orders. Only the fact that we had to refill our wine and water glasses ourselfes was not entirely satisfying. The interior is nice, modernly furnished and very stylish.

In my opinion, so far definitely the best place in Bonn to dine from what I have tried. Ideal for a dinner with friends, bringing your girlfriend or even with your business partner.
