21. December 2012: Restaurant Jdaburg

The truffled celery yoghurt soup was the starter of the lunch menu and it was a great start – the soup was smooth, fine, and still had small pieces of celery in it.

The main course was a trout filet with rice and savoy cabbage (CHF 27.00 for the menu incl. the soup) and it was not as good as the starter. The rice was somehow not perfect, the sauce was a bit boring, the vegetables were good, and the trout was okay. Somehow, I was expecting a bit more considering the reputation of the restaurant but to be fair, they do not have à la carte for lunch so I assume à la carte is better.

For desert, I had a tangerine and chocolate mousse (CHF 14.00) and I must admit, it was very good. The tangerine mousse was light and fluffly, and the chocolate mousse was very fluffy too (especially compared to the chocolate mousse I had the day before in the Restaurant Zunfthaus zur Waag where it was said to be a specialty).

The prices are very fair – especially for Zurich. I cannot remember where you get a lunch menu for only CHF 27.00 which actually tastes good. Also, the prices for beverages are fair – a double espresso accounts for CHF 6.50, a litre of water for CHF 9.50. Only half a litre of water is a bit expensive with CHF 6.00. The Nero d’Avola they have by the glass is okay and accounts for CHF 11.00 per 1 DL.

While the restaurant does not look appealing from the outside, it is very much so from the inside. The room (as it is only one) is modernly designed but still keeps the coziness of a hut in the mountains. The service is friendly, mostly attentive, no complaint with regards to this.

Overall, I can recommend the Restaurant Jdaburg although its main course was a bit disappointing in my humble opinion. The food is good, the prices very fair, the service is good too, and the place is very nice! If you decide to have lunch at the Jdaburg you should definitely book your table in advance.
