30. December 2012: Restaurant Casa de Reyes
Although the Restaurant Casa de Reyes is located in Old Town San Diego (so a pretty touristic area) the food is astonishingly good. Once you are seated, Nachos and Spicy Sauce are brought to your table. The nachos are tasty, the sauce is original spicy like in Mexico.
As a main course I had the “La Bandera de Mexico” (mixed enchilada platter, three sauces for our cheese, chicken and pork enchilada; USD 12.95) – it was quite good. The chicken and pork enchilada were rich, the cheese enchilada was just somehow a bit boring. The only thing a bit irritating was the fact that it did not even closely look like a Mexican flag as the “green” was somehow missing – but well …
I was actually stuffed but when you check in on Foursquare.com, you get a free desert named “Churros Chocos” (usually costs USD 5.95). So, I figured I should give it a try and I must admit the Churros are as good as the ones you get in Mexico on the street.
The portions you get are rather big and, therefore, the prices are more than reasonable. As well for the drinks – a Corona accounts for USD 4.95, a Sprite for USD 2.75. Liz, our waitress, was friendly and helpful, always a smile on her face. She was not too attentive though and one had to wait quite some to place an order. Other than that she did a good job.
The place itself is nothing special but nicely touristic with some Mexican womean dancing to Mexican music. Overall, the place is okay – when it comes to the food, the prices, the service, and the atmosphere.
