Amazingly tasty Chinese dishes: Restaurant Bund 39 (7. November 2019)

| December 4, 2019 | 1 Comments

The Bund 39 is a new restaurant in Zurich which claims to serve authentic Chinese dishes – naturally, I was a bit skeptical about that as my China experience in terms of food has not always been one which was in line with my taste (e.g. the chicken feet skin). However, I decided to give the place a try and went for a selection of different dishes. Generally, the place is actually ideal to share plates. The first one was “Shanghai Style BBQ Pork (Swiss made pork from neck part)” (CHF 16.80) which was rich in terms of flavor but also had a surprisingly good meat quality.

As a second course, we had the “mouth-watering chicken (Swiss made chicken thigh)” (CHF 21.80) which didn’t look too appealing at first but turned out to be an absolutely delicious meal. The chicken was smooth and rich in terms of flavor and had the perfect consistency.

The “dumplings” (I hadn’t noted which ones they were) were good too – and especially with some spicy sauce, they really made a good meal.

As a main course, I went for the “beef in black pepper sauce and fresh brown bunashimeiji mushroom, celery and carrot slice” (CHF 36.90) and I must say that it was delicious. Overall, the portion was big and the food was rather heavy but it was also heavy in terms of aromas.

The place is tiny and there are quite a few tables crammed in so if you look for privacy, it definitely isn’t the right place to go to (way too busy) but if you look for somewhat authentic Chinese food, then it is definitely a good option. The service is super friendly and attentive and the prices are overall also good – as you get quite big portions for what you pay. Booking in advance is highly recommended!
