Great shisha location next to the sea: Layali Al Helmeya (12. January 2018)
My travel guide recommended the Layali Al Helmeya for a shisha – and after walking 10 kilometers through the city of Kuwait on crutches, I decided that it was time to take a break. The restaurant is located by the beach so if you are there early enough during the afternoon while the sun is still shining, you get to enjoy the afternoon sun with a view onto the sea. I had to eat something small so went for the “hommos with meat and pine nuts” (1.450 KWD) and the “spicy potatoes” (1.200 KWD). Now, frankly, the hummous was good but the spicy potatoes were not really to my liking.
The “Fresh Grenadine Juice” (1.450 KWD) on the other hand was great – especially as it wasn’t sweetened like most juices but natural. The “shisha with double apple” (1.950 KWD) was equally good – however, the shisha guy was in the beginning not entirely up to his task and changed the charcoal not often enough. Plus the waiter responsible for drinks and the like really didn’t manage to pay attention and was rather unfriendly overall. Somehow, the ‘responsibility’ shifted during the course of us staying there and we got a better shisha guy and a better waiter who both assisted us in moving inside when it got too chilly outside.
Overall, the place is nice and the shisha is good – just make sure you come in the afternoon so you will actually be able to enjoy the sun next to the beach. Secondly, be patient with the waiters and hope you get a good one assigned.
