Always worth a visit when you’re in Madrid: El Mercado de San Miguel (8. February 2019)
Somehow I end up in the El Mercado de San Miguel every time I visit Madrid – and the reason why is easy! The place is just so lively, so full of joy and ultimately also full of tasty places with tremendous food. Of course, as every time, I had to go for a plate of “Jamón de Iberico” (EUR 19.50) and why 100gr would cost that, they give you a little extra up to 120gr so you won’t complain. And while it is still a bit expensive, it is absolutely worth trying.

The same is true for the “Boquerones Fritos” (EUR 18.00) – a nice load of fried anchovies with some lemon just somehow makes you happy when you eat them!

Something I haven’t tried before were the “tacos” – al pastor and some other thing. And I must admit that they were better than expected. Admittedly, they were not actually ‘al pastor’ but they were good and rich in flavor.

The “croquetas” weren’t too bad either – not all of them to my personal liking but ultimately at least some of them absolutely enjoyable.

Although the place is usually super crowded, if you are lucky and ultimately also a bit dedicated to get that place to sit, you will. And the good thing is, most people have one bite and, therefore, if you’re willing to for a bit, you will ultimately have enough space even for a larger group. So, if you visit Madrid, the El Mercado de San Miguel is an absolute must!!!
