A truly unique fresh seafood experience: Restaurant Marisquería L’Odisea (6. May 2022)

| June 6, 2022 | 0 Comments

Frankly speaking, if I saw the Marisquería L’Odisea from the outside, I probably wouldn’t have walked in, but somehow we ended up here since it has rather good reviews, and it has a pretty appealing concept if you’re into seafood. More concretely, you get to pick what you want to eat straight from the counter, it’s weighed, moved to the kitchen where it gets prepared, and then it’s served at the table – round after round.

Firstly, we went for the “Carabineros Cadiz” (275 gr) (EUR 49.50) which are super expensive in terms of price per kilo. However, it’s definitely worth trying these. They are amazing if you eat them raw as the prawn meat is absolutely smooth and delicious. And they are even better when they are cooked – the interior is incredibly tasty and when you get to suck the head out you experience a true flavour explosion! Definitely worth trying, especially if you haven’t yet.

The “chanquete” (110 gr) (EUR 5.79) are tiny fish which are served fried with a dipping sauce. And although they look super boring somehow (all white) and the batter is super light, they are delicious. Maybe also because the batter is that light – but in any case, that was a great bite and so enjoyable you just want to keep nibbling on a few more chanquetes.

The “Percebes Asturianos” (245 gr) (EUR 27.60) are more of an exquisite delicacy – and not entirely easy to eat. If you’re not careful, you’ll end up spilling the salt water which is inside them onto your clothes, so carefuly when opening then. Then, they are a good bite. Compared to the size of the actual thing, the edible part is rather small – however, still an interesting bite.

The “Puntilla Calamar Fresca” (155 gr) (EUR 9.15) are tiny fried calamari which had great batter and a very interesting sauce (see above with the chanquetes) – with a dash of lemon, it made for a near perfect bite.

The “Navajas Gallegas” (EUR 18.00), although quite exclusive and fancy, were not really entirely to my liking. The pesto like sauce with which they were served was great – however, the mussel itself is relatively intense in terms of taste and only really enjoyable if you cut it into smaller pieces.

The “Salmonete” (125 gr) (EUR 5.87) is really just a fried fish. And quite boring like that. I mean, it’s okay to eat it while dipping it in a sauce which is served with it but frankly, it doesn’t do anything in terms of flavour experience.

The “Almejas Gallegas” (390 gr) (EUR 16.12) aren’t any better either. Luckily, they were served towards the beginning of the evening which made the increase in terms of intensity better than ordered here in the pictures. In any case, they are fine to get started.

The place is super simple inside, so you’re not coming here for the fanciness of the place but you’re coming here for the super fresh seafood which is really mouth-watering and makes you go for little food dances when you get a bite of the Carabineros! On top of that, the price is relatively fair for what you get – and if you don’t go for the super expensive ingredients, you can enjoy a whole lot of fresh sea food a very decent price.

Last but not least, the waitresses are friendly and attentive and make sure you have everything you want within a very short timeframe. Just make sure to book your table in advance as the place isn’t really all too large and it seems to be quite popular.
