A great, but rather well-hidden vegetarian find: Restaurant Don Camillo (15. March 2024)

Sometimes you’re positively surprised by a place like I was by the Don Camillo, especially, since it advertises itself as a vegetarian place. The place is a bit hidden and in terms of ‘entrance’, it isn’t really easy to find, and when you enter the elevator, which brings you to the 2nd floor, you really start wondering where the hell you have ended up. But once you’ve entered the actual restaurant premises, you will realise that this place is actually quite nice. You’re warmly welcomed and brought to your table and some olives and bread are served right away.

We then decided to go for the “three-course menu” (CHF 57.00), which started with “grilled beetroot, beetroot tahini cream, orange, greens, dukkah” (usually, CHF 17.00), which looked not all too amazing, but actually turned out to be rather delicious.

The main course was “vegetable roast, carrot cream, potato, red cabbage topping” (usually CHF 35.00), and while it looked interesting already, I was actually quite positively surprised by th quality of the dish – it was tasty, and overall quite enjoyable.

Last but not least, they served “sweet Camillo” (usually CHF 14.00), which was much lighter than I had expected – and surprisingly delicious (especially, since I’m not the biggest fan of chocolate). In any case much better than the usually heavy kind of chocolate cake you get in most places.

All in all, the Don Camillo is a lovely place, which offers great vegetarian dishes and has professional and friendly staff. Given the place doesn’t have too many tables, I would highly recommend you to book your table well in advance.
