Amazingly lovely place with decent food but slow service: Restaurant Wildenmann (6. April 2024)
Probably a place I would not have found myself if it wasn’t for my friend who picked it – but it is a rather nice experience overall. Sure, it’s not very central, but it is quite lovely in terms of having a view onto the lake if you get a spot by the front. Enjoying your apéro with that view is quite precious.
As an amouse bouche, we got some “veal cheeks”, which were absolutely delicious. Rather intense in terms of flavour profile, but absolutely enjoyable.
The “fish from Zug, served with white and green asparagus” was surprisingly amazing. I mean, the fish itself was fine, but man, the sauce was absolutely mouthwatering delicious! Loved it!
As a main, I went for the “two from the little goat (Toni Odermatt, Stans), white cabbage”, which was great in terms of flavour profile. It had an intensity, which I absolutely enjoyed, and it went great with the sauce it was served in.
The fries with which it was served were nice and crispy, and the second part of the ‘gitzi’ was equally delicious.
Last but not least, it was time for a small “cheese platter” and I liked the size. You would have a bit of everything, in terms of relatively ‘smooth’ to very strong-flavoured blue cheese. On top of that, it had the perfect size, i.e., it was something where you could have a few bites but not feel too full after.
And as a little goodbye from the restaurant, we got a slice of “whipped cream cake”, which is delicious in that size. I couldn’t eat much more of it as it would definitely be too intense in flavour (and too sweet for me personally), but it was a great dish.
What I truly liked about this place was the view – truly stunning, and the whole place is rather quiet, hence, you get to relax perfectly.
All in all, the Wildenmann is a gorgeous place with good dishes for a fair price, however, to be frank, the friendliness of the service doesn’t compensate for the ‘slowness of the service’. It took more than an hour after sitting down until we were able to order, which I find quite annoying, to say the least. Other than that, and if you’re a bit more pushy, I assume, the Wildenmann in Buonas is a great location to visit.
