Decent steaks, but definitely way too loud in terms of background noise: Restaurant Dine (27. April 2024)

| August 8, 2024 | 0 Comments

Since tasting menus are apparently ‘not local enough’, we went to ‘Dine’, which turned out to be not local at all. Well, so much about ‘enjoying local food’. In any case, the “ham and parsley terrine (harissa and coriander hummus, torched spring onion, lemon purée, flatbread)” (GBP 12.50), which was my choice as a starter wasn’t too bad in terms of flavours. Not very Scottish, admittedly, but absolutely tasty.

The “8oz rib-eye” (GBP 29.50) was of much better quality than I had expected. The meat was cooked perfectly medium as I had requested, and the flavour profile was actually quite exquisite. So, if you are a fan of meat, then the Dine in Edinburgh is actually not a bad choice.

The “fries” were fine, but nothing extraordinary. Personally, I didn’t find them crispy enough, but they were overall enjoyable.

The “market vegetables” (GBP 4.50) were served two minutes later than the rest of the dish, which was a bit surprising, but when I looked around to find the waitress with which I had placed the order, she immediately reacted and said, before I could say anything, that they would be with me within a minute, which turned out to be the truth.

The interior looks lovely, but there is not enough space between the tables, so the background noise is incredibly loud, which makes holding a proper conversation rather difficult and challenging. Other than that, the place is nice, but doesn’t have an optimal layout, since it is basically one big round room, which is acoustically not truly optimal.

The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure you have everything you need throughout the evening. So, all in all, the Dine is decent, but it is not a place, which you should visit to get a local experience.
