Overall a decent experience with staff going the extra mile: Restaurant Barroq (18. May 2024)
Given I’ve decided short notice to pay Freiburg im Breisgau a visit, it wasn’t entirely easy to find a place, which had availability and looked kind of nice. The Barroq seemed to kind of work, so, I gave it a try. We started with “garlic prawns (fried prawns, garlic, vegetables, herbs, olive oil)” (EUR 15.90), which were a tiny bit overcooked, but other than that quite nice.

As a second starter, we went for the “Burrata Pesto (Burrata, vinegar, oil, rocket salad, pesto, cherry tomatoes)” (EUR 11.90), which was fine, but definitely had too much pesto for my personal gusto.

Finally, I went for the “rumps teak (grilled piece of beef, truffle fries (+ EUR 3.50), thyme jus, herb butter)” (EUR 31.90), which was nice. The quality of the meat was decent, and considering the two starters, you definitely had enough. The truffle fries were far from amazing, though, but the crumbly truffle part mixed with cheese didn’t really work for me.

The “small green salad”, which was served with the meat, was decent too.

The place was definitely not the fanciest of places, but the staff was definitely going the extra mile to ensure that we had a nice experience. So, from that perspective, I can highly recommend you to eat here when you’re visiting Freiburg im Breisgau.
