A truly delicious experience you should support when you’re in CDMX: Restaurant 1985 AntiFine Dining (28. May 2024)
Another recommendation I decided to follow, and I wasn’t disappointed. The 1985 AntiFine Dining is a lovely place, but I do wonder how they survive given we were the only guests the whole evening! In any case, I started with an “Alkimya (dulce y refrescante nieve de limón transmutada en un illustre elixir con un toque de Vermouth)” (250 MXN), which was rather intense, but absolutely tasty.

Secondly, because one of the party was a bit delayed (Mexican punctuality :) ), I went for the “Hijo Idiota (caprichoso campari revolvido, acompañado de malas decisiones de Mezcal, trompiezos de Vermouth y Pésimos Modales de Cassis)” (250 MXN), which was rather okay, but there was too much foam on top of the drink for my personal gusto.

Once everyone was there, it was time for a little surprise from the kitchen – a “lick from a broken plate”. Frankly, not something you would necessarily expect, but it was an interesting start.

We decided to share a few dishes and went for the “Caracú (bone marrow, beef tartar, habanero ponzu)” (400 MXN), which was delicious. The beef tartar was lovely, the seasoning as well, and the bone marrow was delicious. However, unfortunately, there wasn’t too much bone marrow, which was a bit of a disappointment.

Secondly, we went for the “cerdo en Escabeche (pork, pickled vegetables, mushroom puree and pork rind foam)” (380 MXN), which did not really look appealing, to be honest, but was actually quite tasty. You just had to make sure you would mix the different flavours well together.

Then, my favourite this evening, the “Lengüita (beef tongue, black ‘recado’ and fried kale)” (380 MXN). The tongue was incredibly tender and full of flavour due to the way it had been prepared. Truly a delicious bite …

… and when you would wrap it all into a tortilla, it would just become a perfect little bite.

The “molito (amarillo and coloradito ‘moles’, soft shell crab and Persian cucumber salad)” (400 MXN) definitely looked interesting, and it was actually also tasty, but it turned out to be a messy experience. And I mean, when I say tasty, I mainly refer to the sauce it was served in, because you would dip it in there, but the crab wouldn’t taste like too much itself.

The place is lovely in terms of interior design, which already starts when you walk in …

… and continues with the bar …

… as well as the dining room …

… and I must admit, I really liked their logo! Not entirely sure, what it depicts, but I must say, it was nice and fun. The staff is friendly, attentive, and professional.

So, to me, the 1985 AntiFine Dining is a place you should support when you’re in Mexico City – great dishes, lovely interior, truly authentic experience, and great staff.
